Welcome to the website for the Friends of Leyland Park. We hope you enjoy your visit and keep checking back for news of our latest events and funding campaigns.
The Friends of Leyland Park is a community group, dedicated to improving the standard of Leyland Park in Hindley, Lancashire and more importantly, by way of hosting events, bringing the entire community together!!!
Leyland Park is the second oldest park in the Wigan Borough and was opened on the same day as the library in Market Street, Hindley. It was given to the people of Hindley by John Leyland and has gone through many changes over the years.
With Council budget cuts over the years, the park had lost a bit of it's original shine and so the Friends group was born.
Established in November 2008, the group has gone from strength to strength. We have hosted many community events in the park (check the specific events page), trying to get our message across, that we all need to take ownership of our local public places and make them a more pleasant place to be.
We have also worked closely with Wigan Council and previously, Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust (WLCT), to gain funding and to help wherever we can to improve the look and infrastructure of the park.
We have cemented a close relationship since our formation, something we are looking to build on.
We have also worked closely with our local councillors who sit as honorary members of the committee and give invaluable advice and guidance, not to mention funding!!!
